About Me

Welcome to my blog! My name is Shana, pronounced like Shay-nuh, and I'm probably the biggest foodie you'll ever know. I’m 30 years old and currently live in San Diego with my fiancé and two fur babies. Some of you may know me from my youtube channel and #thepaintedlipsproject; well, a lot has changed since then! I've discovered a passion for health, fitness and all things related to self-improvement, after completely transforming my life. I’m here to share all that I’ve learned, and more, with you.

  • I made clementine poppyseed breakfast muffins using the abundance of leftover clementines I received from my @dailyharvestexpress farm box 🙌🏿 The recipe is inspired by @niomismart however I added a hint of almond to my batch.

Q: Are you a coach or personal trainer? 
A: Nope, which is why I’m hesitant to post my workouts at all. Through the years of taking a lot of classes, I’ve learned the basics about form and feel comfortable in the gym alone, but I AM NOT A PRO so what you see from me is not always correct. 🙈Take the time to consult a pro to teach you proper form vs copying whatever from whoever you see on the gram. You could seriously injure yourself if otherwise.

Q: When I get to the gym, I’m completely lost! Do you follow a plan? 
A: YES! I’m an app junkie and am always on the hunt for a new one to try. I get bored really easily, hence my preference for fitness classes instead. If you’ve tuned into my insta stories this past month, I’ve been using an app called @fitbod to guide my gym workouts. For yoga 🧘🏿‍♀️ I’ve been loving @downdogapp

  • Spicy nachos round two! I could bathe in this sauce👌🏿The recipe is in my bio and is definitely a keeper, however make sure you get good quality chips. Today I used a mix of chips since I was running low on the original bag. I purchased the backup from Trader Joe’s and wow, what a difference (in a bad way lol). They did not hold up and tasted stale to be honest, but thankfully I mixed in just a few. I recommend using the chips by Tacupeto if you’re in San Diego. They’re a local company and made by hand!

  • The picture to the left was post my vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery. That means I willfully signed up to have a portion of my stomach removed in attempts to get some control over myself! After years of struggling and failing with my health, I thought it was my only option😩

One would think that the surgery would’ve been my happily ever after story, but the story was just getting started! I regained nearly all that I lost in the following years🙈 But this girl is not a quitter! 🙅🏿‍♀️I’ve been maintaining my healthy/happy weight for at least two years now and have learned so much along the way!

5 TIPS for you. TAG a friend: 
1) Listen to and correct that inner voice. Turn your mindset towards one of positivity, love and support, even if you have to fake it at first. Visualize the person you want to be and adopt the healthy habits that person would have.
2) Eat real food, mostly plants, most of the time. 
3) Be consistent. Make it fun. This includes cooking classes, new recipes, fitness classes, workouts, taking the stairs vs elevators, meditating/praying if that’s your thing, #dailylunchwalk etc. consistency is far more important than perfection, as wisely stated by @ceceolisa 
4) Be good to yourself just for the sake of feeling good/better! Before I’d workout TO lose weight and quit when I didn’t see the results I wanted fast enough! Stop that sh*t! Instead prioritize self love and care in the form of your health and how you feel REGARDLESS of any results you may see. If you aren’t feeling good, you’re doing it wrong. My “success” is a side effect of discovering self-respect first! 
5) There is no finish line so take your time, ditch the number obsession (scales, calories, pant sizes) and trust the process. Be kind and patient with yourself. Our bodies want to be in a state of wellness. If we get out of the way and support it, it’ll find its way to its happy place with ease!

  • From homemade crackers to nut/seed milks, I’ve really been enjoying making my store-bought processed staples from scratch lately. I love that I know (and can control) how it’s made and the exact (minimal) ingredients used. To me this is a form of self-love and I swear the effort makes it taste all the better too 💕

  • This was my first time making crackers from scratch and now I’m obsessed! Why haven’t I ever made my own crackers before? It’s so simple, there’s only 4 ingredients! I topped mine with smashed avocado, lemon, tomato and crushed red pepper.

RECIPE: 
2/3 cup amaranth
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons chia seeds

DIRECTIONS: 
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prep a baking sheet (I used a silpat)
2. Combine the amaranth with 1.5 cups of water and salt. Bring to a boil, then to a simmer. Cover the pot and cook until all the liquid is absorbed (about 30 mins). Stir in the sesame and chia seeds. 
3. Place 3 teaspoons worth of batter into mounds on the baking sheet, and flatten out into thin disks using moist fingertips. 
4. Bake for a total of 30 mins (or until golden brown and crunchy), flipping each cracker over mid cooking time. Allow to cool on a wire rack and store in an airtight container.
